This episode, the students visits a Furniture Fair as well as a local furniture company called Yong Xiang Furniture Factory that is located in Shunde. Students spend about 2 hours roaming the Fair by themselves.

At Yong Xiang, a lady gives a short tour and a briefing to the students. The briefing includes details about materials used to make the sofa, cost of production per month, sales each month etc…Glenda finds out the reason for the separation of the 2 factory outlets. The separation is actually to avoid pollution. Glenda also realizes that in order to improve competitiveness, Yong Xiang does customization of sofas as well. This occur to Glenda that one has to be flexible in doing business in order to succeed.

This episode is where the students visit Pearl River Piano which produces about 70,000 pianos a year. A few talented students display their piano skills in front of the group.

Following on, the students attend a lecture at Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University. The lecture bores Glenda out. Boring it might be, it was a useful lecture on the development of Guangdong province.

Networking with Mr Nee Pai Chee

This episode is where the students learn about the markets in the world. The episode starts of ZhuJiang brewery and later leads to a lunch networking meeting where a meaningful talk was given by Mr. Nee who is the Regional Director of International Operations of International Enterprise Singapore. The role of IE in Singapore is to help companies realize their dreams and find markets for them. He then gave an example of a big consumer market, Guangdong. It is the biggest consumer market in China and a very good alternative for companies.

Glenda realizes that the Singapore’s market is too small and thus many Singapore companies are venturing out instead. China is a good investment place because of the large population, cost performance of labor and low logistic cost. She also learns that having good connections with others is not enough, rather having the right attitude, passion and producing quality products are more important to succeed in the China market. With that, Glenda felt enlightened and ready to take on the world of business!
